Kweene Trails explores a wild and spectacular corner of the Okavango

Embark on an intimate exploration of one of the Okavango Delta’s most remote and pristine wilderness areas. A journey down the Kweene Trails links two uniquely positioned seasonal camps, each set within contrasting landscapes that reveal the remarkable diversity of this iconic ecosystem.

Situated in the southern section of the Kweene River System in an occasional swamp habitat, the area has an arid feel to it. As the floodplains are inundated with water less frequently than the seasonal swamp, the grass species that dominate the floodplains are much more palatable and thus productive, supporting large herds of grazers and the predators that follow.

The Kweene Trails provides a rare level of privacy, ensuring that every journey unfolds in complete seclusion within its own dedicated wilderness area, accompanied by its own devoted safari crew. Each safari is crafted to reflect the interests, pace, and comfort of every guest, lead by nature’s rhythm and the wilderness’s storytelling, with an emphasis on meaningful, personalised and expert guiding. Our Camps are intentionally simple yet exceptionally comfortable, with everything that you need and nothing that you don’t. Privacy, freedom, and authenticity shape every moment, allowing the landscape to lead and the experience to become the ultimate luxury.

All access into and out of Kweene is only by helicopter transfer from Maun or from any other camp within Northern Botswana.

Each Kweene Trail spans four nights, with two nights spent at each of our two seasonal camps to offer a rich and varied immersion into the Delta’s contrasting environments. When four or more guests travel together, the experience automatically becomes a fully exclusive-use safari expedition, allowing complete privacy and total flexibility. On the moving day between camps, the journey is conducted on foot (approximately 15 km) or by mokoro, or by game drive vehicle, or through a combination of these—guided by both guest preference and the insight of your guide.

The day is designed as a full wilderness experience, complete with a picnic lunch in a quiet corner of the bush. While you explore, your safari crew moves ahead to the next camp, ensuring everything is prepared for your arrival later that afternoon. This shared movement—not just through the landscape, but through the rhythm of the safari—deepens the sense of camaraderie between guests and staff, creating a warm, familiar atmosphere that becomes an essential part of the Kweene experience.

The Impact of Your Stay

With a contribution of $100/per per night, we provide guests with a meaningful contribution with every stay to directly support the long-term protection of the Okavango Delta and the well-being of the communities who call it home. Your journey makes a tangible difference in three key areas: Anti-poaching, improving educational resources at Habu Primary School and providing bursaries (currently 3 students) for promising students to attend private schools in Maun.

Treading Lightly

Sustainability sits at the heart of the Kweene experience. Our seasonal – Kweene operates from 1 April to 4 January, covering the Delta’s most rewarding wildlife and wilderness months. Fully solar-powered light footprint camps are designed to blend unobtrusively into the landscape.

Ensuring our presence has minimal impact on the surrounding ecosystem, implementing mindful water use, a reverse osmosis filtration system, and routes that reduce environmental disturbance.
