Samara Karoo Safari Villa A Refined Private Wilderness Retreat
Set within 67,000 acres of restored wilderness in South Africa’s vast Great Karoo, family-owned five-star Samara Karoo Reserve has unveiled a beautifully reimagined version of its exclusive four-suite safari villa, The Manor.
Designed as a private-use retreat for up to eight guests, The Manor offers families and small groups an immersive, malaria-free safari experience in one of South Africa’s most dramatic and uncrowded landscapes.
Surrounded by sweeping plains, the ancient Sneeuberge Mountains and endless “big sky” horizons, The Manor provides a refined yet deeply connected wilderness escape.
Elevated Design, Seamless Connection to Nature
The thoughtful refurbishment enhances The Manor’s sense of understated luxury. Interiors now feature sumptuous textiles, hand-selected artworks and bespoke décor inspired by the Karoo’s rich artisanal heritage.
Two expansive living areas, intimate reading alcoves and multiple gathering spaces allow guests to shift effortlessly between shared moments and quiet retreat. The dining room, bar, breakfast room and spacious kitchen form a welcoming social hub for storytelling after a day on safari.
A new state-of-the-art gym with panoramic Karoo views adds a contemporary wellness element to the villa.
Outdoors, a 21-metre swimming pool blends into newly landscaped indigenous gardens designed to attract birds and pollinators. Raised viewing platforms overlook a nearby waterhole, offering remarkable wildlife sightings directly from the property.
Evenings centre around the newly built boma, where guests dine beneath vast starlit skies and gather around the fire, immersed in the sounds of the African bush.
Each stay is fully staffed with a dedicated guide and tracker, private chef and attentive hospitality team. A private safari vehicle ensures completely personalised game drives and tailored daily itineraries.
Immersive Family Safari Adventures
Beyond traditional game drives, Samara offers an experience rooted in conservation and connection. Guests can encounter the Big Five alongside rare and fascinating species, including aardvark, bat-eared fox, eland, springbok and the endangered Blue Crane. Guided walking safaris, night drives and conservation-focused experiences reveal the remarkable biodiversity of this unique semi-arid ecosystem.
The Samara Cubs Programme introduces younger guests to wildlife tracking, conservation activities and Karoo-inspired arts and crafts, creating meaningful engagement for children of all ages.
Educational fossil excursions in the surrounding Sneeuberge Mountains uncover prehistoric discoveries and ancient rock formations, while the Karoo’s crystal-clear night skies transform stargazing into a magical family ritual.
Effortless Access to the Heart of the Karoo
International travellers can fly into Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) before continuing by scenic road transfer or private charter. For added convenience, guests may also fly directly from Port Elizabeth to Samara’s private gravel airstrip with Air du Cap, reaching the reserve in approximately 45 minutes and landing in the heart of the wilderness.
