Mauritius has earned its reputation as one of the Indian Ocean’s premier golf destinations.

Behind several of the island’s most respected courses sits a management company deeply involved in how the game is delivered, experienced and evolved.

The Golf Company Africa manages and operates some of Mauritius’ most highly regarded golf facilities: Avalon Golf Estate, Le Château Golf Course, La Réserve Golf Links and Azuri The Nine. In the latest Top 100 courses rankings, Mauritian rankings serve as a strong validation of The Golf Company’s management capability.

La Réserve Golf Links and Avalon Golf Estate occupy rankings one and two, respectively, with Le Château sitting in fifth position. Azuri the Nine is a par 3 course, and while this does not fit into the Top100 ranking criteria, it has won the World’s Best Par 3 course twice (2023 and 2025). Each is internationally recognised, each is distinct in character, and each benefits from a management model that extends well beyond day-to-day operations.

A defining feature across the portfolio is championship pedigree. Both Le Château Golf Course and La Réserve Golf Links have hosted the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, a DP World Tour event, firmly establishing their credentials on the global stage.

Avalon Golf Estate

Set high in the south-central uplands of Mauritius’ Bois Chéri area, Avalon is a modern “mountain/inland” layout known for cooler air, big elevation swings, and wide open views that can stretch from the Grand Bassin region out toward the coast on clear days. It’s an 18-hole championship course designed by Peter Matkovich, with a reputation for being scenic and playable while still asking for smart club selection because of wind and altitude.

La Réserve Golf Links – “Pure Golfing Drama”

La Réserve Golf Links brings authentic links golf to the Indian Ocean. Exposed, dramatic and shaped naturally into the ground contours, it demands creativity and control. Hosting a DP World Tour event so soon after opening was a clear statement of its competitive credentials.

La Réserve certainly delivers “pure golfing drama”. The 2025 AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open saw a playo` between Ryan Gerard and Jayden Schaper, which not only delivered an exhilarating play`, but also an incredible storyline. Gerard required a 4th-place finish or better to secure his spot in the 2026 U.S Masters. The 10,000-mile round trip proved to be well worth the jet lag as he stamped his ticket into the field.

Le Château Golf Course

In the lush Bel Ombre estate, Le Château is a classic, parkland-style championship test routed around a 19th-century château, with mature trees and plenty of water in play. It’s widely positioned as a “must-play” Mauritius course, pairing generous-looking corridors with hazards that punish the wrong angles, especially as the wind shifts off the nearby coast and valley lines.

A past DP World Tour venue, the course is capable of hosting elite competition without sacrificing everyday enjoyment, which makes it a popular choice for the travelling golfer.

Its success lies in offering an engaging golf experience without the time commitment of a full round, making it equally appealing to beginners, families and serious golfers seeking a refined yet relaxed way to play.

• Located at Azuri Ocean & Golf Village in Roches Noires (northeast Mauritius).

What’s Next?

In April, The Golf Company Africa will open “The Range”, a new-generation golf facility designed to broaden the game’s appeal. The concept blends technology-driven practice, a high-quality short-game area, an 18-hole putt-putt course, retail and PGA-qualified coaching, creating a venue that appeals equally to golfers and non-golfers.
