The Uganda Rwanda Burundi Overland tour will take you through the beautiful hills and parks of these countries of the great lakes region which share a lot in history & culture. This trip will let you experience gorilla trekking in Bwindi National Park in Uganda, Rwanda & Burundi history and culture: Rwanda Ethnographic museum, Burundi drummers, Karera waterfalls, the Source of Nile, Rusizi National Park, and Lake Tanganyika.

What to Expect

7 Days for 3 Countries: The 7-Day Uganda Rwanda Burundi Overland Tour: The best way to experience this tour is to fly into Kigali International Airport in Rwanda and travel overland to Uganda, Rwanda, and Burundi. Once in Uganda, you can experience Gorilla trekking in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park.

You will then check out the capital city of Kigali and visit some of the city’s fascinating museums, galleries, the Kigali Genocide Memorial, and markets. You will also explore the idyllic villages and towns of Rwanda’s countryside. Finally, you can cross the border into Burundi and explore the country’s unique culture and scenery. You can visit the Karera waterfall, the Gishora Drum Sanctuary, and the capital city of Bujumbura.

Itinerary

Day 1 Arrive in Kigali, Rwanda

We will meet you at Kigali International, and you will be transferred to Mille Collines Hotel. Relax to prepare for the next safari day. Overnight at your hotel.

Day 2 Kigali City tour and transfer to Bwindi National Park

After breakfast, Kigali city tour: The city tour includes a visit to the Gisozi genocide memorial, Presidential Palace Museum, and former state house with exhibits on Rwandan history & debris from a presidential plane crash before the genocide starts in 1994. In the afternoon, transfer to Bwindi National Park. Overnight at Bakiga Lodge.

Day 3 Gorilla Trekking & Transfer to Kigali

In the morning after breakfast, we head to the Bwindi National Park Headquarters where we will be allocated groups of gorillas to be visited. The gorilla trekking will lead you through the Bwindi mountain forest, and this may take 1-4 hours. The maximum time to spend with the gorillas is one hour.

After the Gorilla trekking experience, we drive back to Kigali for an overnight at Mille Collines Hotel.

Day 4 Rwanda Historical & Cultural Visits

After breakfast, transfer to Nyanza King’s Palace, located 88 km south of Kigali City, this was the residence of King Mutara III Rudahigwa and the Royal Palace that was traditionally built. This Palace offers a detailed look into the Rwandan traditional seat of their monarchy, it is an impressive museum, restored to its 19th-century state and made entirely with traditional materials. The visit will continue to the Butare Ethnographic Museum, formerly the National Museum of Rwanda. Overnight at Credo Hotel/ Mater Bon Consili Hotel

Day 5 Transfer to Bujumbura, Burundi

After breakfast, you will be taken to Rwanda/Burundi border for entry formalities taking about 15-30 minutes. Afterward, you will drive to Bujumbura. Rest at the beach of Lake Tanganyika where your hotel is located. You may use complementary services (swimming pool) or choose to enjoy a walk on the shores of Lake Tanganyika. Overnight at Club du Lac Tanganyika Hotel.

Day 6 Visit Source, Karera Waterfalls, Gishora Drum Sanctuary

After breakfast at 7:00 a.m., transfer to Rutana to see the amazing Karera waterfalls and the source of the Nile in Rutovu. Visit Gitega national museum a collection of artifacts and antiquities from Burundi and Gishora drum sanctuary before transfer to Bujumbura. Overnight at Club du Lac Tanganyika Hotel.

Day 7 City Tour + Fly from Bujumbura

After breakfast, pick up at the hotel and go for a city tour in Bujumbura including

Visiting Rusizi National Park where a boat trip is possible to let you explore closer the hippos and birds in Rusizi River;

Islam Culture Centre. The Explorers Memorial, a huge rock in the Suburbs of Bujumbura that commemorates the meeting between explorers Livingstone & Stanley;

Unity monument • Belvedere Hill offers a nice of Lake Tanganyika and the city.
