Turbine Boutique Hotel and Spa – situated on Thesen Islands in Knysna

Situated on Thesen Islands in Knysna, is one of South Africa’s most unusual hotels – the 5-star Turbine Boutique Hotel and Spa. With its distinctive architecture paying homage to the old power station it once was, it offers guests luxurious accommodation options, exceptional cuisine and stunning views.

Accommodation comprises 26 rooms – luxury and standard rooms, a honeymoon suite and two expansive self-contained suites adjacent to the hotel; all with luxurious amenities such as a flat-screen TV, Wi-Fi, a fully stocked mini-bar, a tea and coffee station and original artworks by local South African artists on the walls, which are for sale. The Turbine’s 90-seater Island Café Restaurant – with its inside tables nestled between the original turbines and its outside tables on the spacious terrace overlooking the canal, is open every day of the week and offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner and also monthly food and wine pairings.

The vibey Gastro Pub offers classic pub meals with a delicious turbine twist on-tap draught beer, a comprehensively stocked cellar and glorious lagoon sunset views – perfect for the ‘Happy Hour’ every Friday evening with a live music line-up of local musicians.

There are excellent conference facilities for business visitors – two conference rooms that can host from 20 to 40 delegates with free Wi-Fi, full audio-visual facilities and tailored catering packages, and it is also transformed into the superb wedding venue. The recent installation of a generator ensures that load shedding outages are a thing of the past. The Turbine welcomes bookings for small business conferences, events and weddings. The Turbine Spa one of the finest on the Garden Route has a wide range of body and beauty treatments for men and women, for day visitors, and hotel guests. The hotel’s own adventure centre, the Turbine Water Club offers and arranges a variety of water and land-based activities providing guests with the best of Knysna’s water-based activities – fishing charters, whale watching, and two firm favourites of guests, kayaking and sunset cruises; and land adventures – guided tours into the ancient Knysna Forest, and bicycle hire. The Turbine is also a disabled-friendly hotel – there is a disabled toilet downstairs for use by restaurant and bar guests and a bedroom designed to accommodate any disabled guest.
