Krone Cap Classique presents Night Nectar Blanc de Blancs 2018

Night Nectar Blanc de Blancs is a supreme expression of Chardonnay, night-harvested under the light of the stars and bottle-fermented in the cool of Krone Cap Classique’s underground cellar.

Tulbagh, Western Cape (April 2022) – Krone proudly presents the addition of Night Nectar Blanc De Blancs 2018 to their collection of Vintage-only Cap Classique. 2022 sees the release of a new, innovative Cap Classique, made exclusively from Chardonnay in the nectar style. Night Nectar Blanc De Blancs 2018 is a supreme expression of the purity of the Chardonnay grape. Crafted at Twee Jonge Gezellen, the site of much innovation in its 300-year history, the Night Nectar Blanc De Blancs is the first of its kind in South Africa. This elegant, long-lived Cap Classique is made from night-harvested Chardonnay and will benefit from both maturation in the bottle as well as for enjoyment now. With up to 36 months of bottle maturation, this Blanc de Blanc embodies the spirit of Krone and will develop further in complexity as it ages.

Bold, yet soft tasting notes of stony pale lemon, and aromatic intensity of baked yellow apples, orange zest, dessert peaches and cinnamon, intermingle with the spice of alpine herbs, sage and white blossom. The complex bouquet shows swirls of dulce de leche and salty sea spray, with touches of autumn leaf. The palate has a gossamer-light creamy mousse and rounded mouthfeel, which envelops a core of pure, peachy fruit. A characteristic of the 2018 growing season, the bright, linear acidity is in balance with the subtle, elegant richness, allowing this fine Vintage-only Cap Classique to linger on the palate with a citrusy, nutty finish.

In crafting the Night Nectar Blanc de Blancs, Chardonnay is hand-harvested under the light of the stars. Only the free-run juice is used: ± the first 500 litres per ton. Krone Night Nectar Blanc De Blancs 2018 is naturally fermented in foudres and is then crafted in a classic bottle-fermented style. It matures on the lees for up to 36 months in the cool of the Krone underground cellar. After which the final dosage is added, to be in perfect balance with the natural acidity of the Cap Classique, providing an elegant touch of richness. Bold, vivacious and one of a kind – bring on the night.

Krone has partnered with radio personality, Luthando Shosha, to bring the story of the new Cap Classique to life. As the face and ambassador of the launch campaign, Luthando Shosha is featured on campaign material and has been intimately involved in various elements surrounding the launch.

“Working with Luthando as a creative force and collaborator, our partnership defies gravity. We bring the best of what we do and she brings the best of what she does. Nothing escapes. No detail is too insignificant, no idea too outlandish. It’s an absolute joy and honour,” says Krone Marketing Director, Abigail Rands on the partnership.

Night Nectar Blanc de Blancs 2018 will be available from the Krone Cap Classique website, at select restaurants & venues, and at select retail partners from 01 April 2022. About Krone Cap Classique

Krone Vintage-only Cap Classique is handcrafted in the traditional method on the 300-year-old Twee Jonge Gezellen wine estate in Tulbagh. Our Cap Classique celebrates a commitment to the vintage and the character of each harvest. We believe that each vintage tells a story. Krone Vintage-only Cap Classique celebrates a moment in time and place, the unique hallmarks of every vintage.

The making of vintage-only Krone Cap Classique is directed by nature: from soil to vine to bottle. Our winemaking team channels the rain, the sun, the wind into structure, complexity and balance—and seals it all with a cork. The site-specific rocky soils of Tulbagh are like nowhere else in the Cape Winelands.

Family-owned, the Rands family purchased the farm in 2012. Brother and sister, Svend and Abigail are involved intimately in all aspects of the estate, from vineyard plantings to marketing. Cellarmaster Rudiger Gretschel leads the winemaking division, a renowned Cape winemaker he pours his considerable knowledge into both the viticulture as well as the vinification, working seamlessly alongside Cap Classique specialist and head winemaker Stephan de Beer.

The 300-year-old farm has been restored to reflect its heritage and contemporary renaissance and is open to the public for tastings as well as cellar and gallery tours.
